13 Mar 2024 Eurosmart welcomes the recent adoption of the Cyber Resilience Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act by the European Parliament
Eurosmart, the leading association representing the digital security industry in Europe, welcomes the recent adoption of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) by the European Parliament. These legislative advancements mark significant strides towards bolstering cybersecurity measures for products with digital elements placed on the EU market and towards fostering ethical artificial intelligence (AI) development across the European Union.
The adoption of these two acts strengthens Europe’s stance on security, privacy in the digital world, and reinforces digital strategic autonomy. Eurosmart supports this legislative framework as it lays the groundwork for further cybersecurity certifications, making a direct link with the European Cybersecurity Act.
“Advocating for innovation and security, Eurosmart is committed to supporting the implementation of the Cyber Resilience Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act,” added John Boggie, President of Eurosmart. “We stand ready to collaborate with policymakers, industry partners, and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of these legislative measures and promote responsible AI innovation in Europe.”
Looking ahead, and after the Council’s adoption, concerted efforts are imperative to define harmonised standards and appropriate cybersecurity certification schemes to support the correct implementation of both Acts. In this regard, stakeholder involvement is pivotal for ensuring proper implementation.
Eurosmart is promoting a hybrid approach with strong involvement of the industry. Hence, a maintenance organisation would play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and adoption of suitable schemes to support both Acts. Industry and experts’ contributions are essential to facilitate the market adoption of the schemes and standards. By providing ongoing support, guidance, and updates, such a type of governance can ensure that the schemes remain relevant. Moreover, industry and experts’ input are invaluable in refining and enhancing the schemes to address emerging threats, technological advancements, and evolving regulatory landscapes. This collaborative effort ensures that the schemes meet the needs of stakeholders while promoting cybersecurity excellence and responsible AI innovation across Europe.
Moving forward, Eurosmart is committed to leveraging its expertise and collaborating through future expert groups aimed at defining harmonized standards and suitable cybersecurity certification schemes to complement the Cyber Resilience Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act.
