13 Jul 2021 European mobile identity: Recommendations on SAM technology
The European Commission recently proposed a framework for a European Digital Identity. The proposed legislation amends the eIDAS Regulation and introduces the concept of European Digital Identity Wallet. The European Commission did not choose a particular technology at this stage. However, Member States will soon start working on a toolbox and agree on common standards.
In this new paper, Eurosmart gives its insights on a potential candidate for the technical architecture of the European mobile identity: Secure Application for Mobile (SAM). GSMA SAM is currently defining the SAM solution.
Eurosmart makes recommendations on security aspects, the trust model, data protection, interoperability, and governance. This paper was drafted as guidance for a successful deployment of SAM technology applied to digital identity.
