Eurosmart appoints Olivier Van Nieuwenhuyze as new President

Eurosmart, the leading voice of the digital security industry in Europe, is pleased to announce the appointment of Olivier Van Nieuwenhuyze as its new President. Olivier succeeds John Boggie (NXP) in this role and will lead Eurosmart in strengthening digital security policies and standards while ensuring the association’s continued growth and influence in the digital security ecosystem. His leadership comes at a pivotal moment, as the industry faces a rapidly evolving cybersecurity regulatory landscape, new standardization and cybersecurity certification initiatives in Europe and beyond.

Through an ambitious 2025 work plan, Eurosmart will address key challenges, including the implementation of major regulations such as the Cyber Resilience Act, Artificial Intelligence Act, Radio Equipment Directive, and Cybersecurity Act. Additionally, the association will drive innovation in emerging technologies such as Post-Quantum Cryptography, Digital Wallets, and Cloud Services, while fostering collaboration and expanding its membership base to enhance industry-wide security initiatives.

Olivier Van Nieuwenhuyze is the Security Lobbying and Senior Standardization Senior Manager at STMicroelectronics. With extensive expertise in NFC technology (including Architecture and RF technologies), smartcards, Java Card Virtual Machine, GlobalPlatform, ETSI, CEN/CENELEC, NFC Forum, MIFARE technologies, and the payment industry, Olivier brings a wealth of knowledge to this new leadership position. He has been an active Eurosmart Board Member since January 2022 and has established a strong working relationship with the association over the years. Olivier states:

“I am deeply grateful for the Board’s trust and confidence. Eurosmart possesses strong expertise in digital security and provides guidance for the implementation of secure services. We will leverage this experience to address upcoming challenges. I look forward to working closely with our talented team, industry partners, stakeholders and the Board to achieve our strategic goals and drive impactful initiatives.”

The outgoing president John Boggie welcomed the appointment of Olivier with the following message:

“I am very happy to hand the presidency over to Olivier. We have worked together for over 10 years, and I know that Eurosmart will continue to thrive under his strong leadership and expertise.”
