In this document, Eurosmart’s experts analysed the situation in five selected countries and expressed a range of recommendations to ensure strong identIn this position paper, Eurosmart welcomed the adoption of Commission Regulation No 383/2012 laying down technical requirements with regard to driving licences which include a storage medium (microchip). Eurosmart’s eID Working Group highlighted the steps towards stronger interoperability and noted the advantages to fitting driving licences with an electronic chip, for both law enforcement authorities and citizens. As a new electronic identity document, the implementation of a European eDriving License makes Europe a worldwide frontrunner in this application.
